چکیده

where ψ is soil moisture pressure head, C(ψ) is specific water capacity, K(ψ) is unsaturated hydraulic conductivity, S(ψ) is a sink or source term, t is time, x is the horizontal axis, and z is the vertical axis which is considered positive downward. Equation (1.1) is an approximation within the context of the theory of mixtures. It is studied here in the form (1.1) as a first step. An introduction to the general theory of mixtures can be found in the book by Rajagopal and Tao [17] which contains references to the earlier papers of Truesdell that have had a great impact on the development of the theory. This approach is rather general and takes into account a variety of physical mechanisms and chemical reactions. Also of crucial importance within such a theory is the choice of boundary conditions and the problems associated with the choice of these conditions (see [6]). The book also provides numerous references on flow through porous media and the interested reader can consult the relevant references therein. Group classification of (1.1) with respect to admitted point transformation groups was done in [2]. Some exact solutions were also obtained in the paper just cited.

Entropy Stable Approximations of Nonlinear Conservation Laws

A central problem in computational fluid dynamics is the development of the numerical approximations for nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws and related time-dependent problems governed by additional dissipative and dispersive forcing terms. Entropy stability serves as an essential guideline in the design of new computationally reliable numerical schemes. My dissertation research involves a ...

Port-Hamiltonian formulation of shallow water equations with coriolis force and topography∗

Port based network modeling of complex lumped parameter physical systems naturally leads to a generalized Hamiltonian formulation of its dynamics. The resulting class of open dynamical systems are called “Port-Hamiltonian systems” [12] which are defined using a Dirac structure, the Hamiltonian and dissipative elements. This formulation has been successfully extended to classes of distributed pa...

Euler Equations and Related Hyperbolic Conservation Laws

Some aspects of recent developments in the study of the Euler equations for compressible fluids and related hyperbolic conservation laws are analyzed and surveyed. Basic features and phenomena including convex entropy, symmetrization, hyperbolicity, genuine nonlinearity, singularities, BV bound, concentration, and cavitation are exhibited. Global well-posedness for discontinuous solutions, incl...

Conservation laws of semidiscrete canonical Hamiltonian equations

There are many evolution partial differential equations which can be cast into Hamiltonian form. Conservation laws of these equations are related to one–parameter Hamiltonian symmetries admitted by the PDEs [1]. The same result holds for semidiscrete Hamiltonian equations [2]. In this paper we consider semidiscrete canonical Hamiltonian equations. Using symmetries, we find conservation laws for...
